The Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted a drugs and illegal arms smuggling module and arrested one accused with 2.1 kg heroin and seven sophisticated pistols.
According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the accused was allegedly in contact with a foreign-based smuggler using virtual numbers and was receiving consignments of drugs and weapons for supply across Punjab.
Sharing the information on social media handle X, he said police suspected the network may have wider links connected to organised crime and cross-border smuggling operations.
He said the seized pistols were sophisticated weapons, raising concerns over the growing nexus between narcotics and illegal arms trafficking in the border state.
A case has been registered at C-Division police station in Amritsar. Investigators are now probing forward and backward linkages to identify more members of the network.
“Punjab Police remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, illegal arms and organised crime,” the DGP said.
