
The operations cell of the Chandigarh Police today arrested four accused involved in the Panjab University campus firing on March 17 and also in a robbery.
Gaurav and Rajat of Amritsar were arrested with two .32-bore automatic pistols and nine cartridges. Ravi Nijjar of Sirsa was arrested with three cartridges, while 20-year-old Aryan of Amritsar was arrested with one automatic pistol and four cartridges.
All were actively working as key associates and shooters for foreign-based gangsters Doni Bal and Shaganpreet Singh. Shagan and Doni used to send them small amounts of money through QR codes via different channels, which are currently being investigated. The four have disclosed that on the directions of Shagan, they entered PU with the intent to attack Jashan Jawandha, SOPU president.
Subsequently, the accused escaped from the rear gate of the university on a scooter. Near a temple outside the campus, they snatched a motorcycle at gunpoint and fled towards Mohali.
It has been revealed that Ravi Nijjar had developed close links with gangster networks through criminal associates and social media platforms. The accused was being continuously tasked to carry out recce, targeted firing incidents and violent crimes in Punjab and Chandigarh.
Another accused named Aryan was arrested from Sector 26, and is also wanted by Punjab Police in the murder case of Class XII student Amarjot Singh at Mehta Chowk, Amritsar, besides being involved in a firing case in Khanna.
