In the morning, some 10,000 people enlivened the Head of State’s 71st official birthday celebrate parade.

Participants from 84 contingents gathered as early as 6.30am, involving government officials, private sector representatives, non-governmental organisations, school and higher education students, Sabah state ethnic organisations and security forces (pic).

The official ceremony began with Juhar’s arrival at Padang Merdeka at 8am, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Norlidah R M Jasni.

Juhar received the Royal Salute from the Main Guard of Honour (KKU) of the 22nd Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment from Lok Kawi Camp, consisting of three officers and 103 other ranks led by Major Roshidee Husni.

Afterward, Juhar inspected the Main Guard of Honour before ascending to the main stage and receiving the Royal Salute from the KKU before they marched off the field.

The uniformed government department contingents entered the field at 8.10am, led by the Parade Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Amran Omar, who reported and invited Juhar to inspect the contingents.

Accompanying Juhar during the contingent inspection in the Ceremonial Vehicle was the Commander of the 5th Division, Major General Datuk Noorul Azril Ariffin, accompanied by the combined music of the Royal Malaysia Police Band Sabah Contingent and the Royal Malaysian Navy.

The highlight of the Parade Ceremony was the Pinning of the Honorary Wings of VAT 69 Commando to Juhar by the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The event also featured a special Igal dance (medley) performance by the Sabah Cultural Board.

Also present were Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his wife, Datin Seri Julia Salag, as well as Deputy Chief Minister III cum Chairman of the Main Committee for the 71st Official Birthday Celebration of Head of State, Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, and state cabinet ministers.
