
Kota Kinabalu: A total of 89 contingents will participate in the parade in conjunction with the 71st official birthday of the Sabah Governor this Saturday (Oct 5).
Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, who is also the Chairman of the main organising committee, said the contingents comprise government departments, private entities, associations, higher learning institutes and school students.
“I am grateful and proud of everyone’s involvement. This shows the patriotic spirit towards the Governor of Sabah,” he told a special press conference, here, Monday.
Joachim, who is also State Local Government and Housing Minister, said preparations have been made since the beginning of May.

Read more To ensure a smooth parade, he said three rehearsals will be held with all those involved beginning Oct 1 under the supervision of the Executive Committee of City Hall (DBKK).
“I understand that preparations in the districts have been made where billboards have been raised as early as September, after the Malaysia Day celebrations.
“Thanks to all local authorities that have put up billboards in their respective districts,” he said.
He said a total of 12 events were planned for implementation by the Executive Committee.
“As Chairman of the Main Committee, I would like to invite people of all walks of life to come together and celebrate the 71st official birth anniversary of the Governor of Sabah.
“Let us all attend while witnessing the programme that has been arranged. The event will start as early as 6.30am at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu,” he said.
Joachim also called on the people of Sabah to always pray for the health and wellbeing of Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and consort Toh Puan Nirlidah R M Jasni, as well as their whole family, so that they are always protected and blessed.
“We, as Sabahans, should be grateful for having the opportunity to be under the leadership of someone who always cares about the welfare of the people regardless of race or religion.
“The wise leadership and concern shown by Juhar is an example that is respected and followed by all levels of society in Sabah.”
