Kota Kinabalu: Ten Filipino undocumented migrants were detained during a multi-agency joint operation coordinated by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) across the SAFMA area, Central Market, and surrounding waters on Tuesday night.
The integrated exercise, dubbed "Operasi Todak", began at 11pm on Aug 4 and involved the police, Immigration Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Sabah Marine Department, and Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (Safma).
Immigration officers inspected 521 individuals and arrested the 10 Filipinos under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 before transferring them to the Kota Kinabalu Immigration Depot for further action.
Maritime authorities inspected four boats and a local fishing vessel—handing seven crew members to immigration—while withholding one vessel's licence due to expired foreign seafarer documents and monitoring the waters for fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, DBKK compounded two unlicensed hawkers and seized a motorcycle alongside trading equipment, with the police deploying 21 personnel to ensure overall security throughout the operation.
