Ten members of the MT Aqua 1, a vessel hit by an Iranian cruise missile last April 1, returned home on April 18, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
The Filipinos arrived in the country through a Malaysia Airlines flight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in Pasay City.
The ten were welcomed by DMW Personnel at the airport, led by Director Augusto San Diego, and provided financial assistance, in coordination with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
“Various government programs are also prepared to support their smooth reintegration into the country, such as free training, livelihood support, and re-employment facilitation,” the DMW said in a statement in Filipino.
The Filipinos’ return were done in coordination with the DMW and the Department of Foreign Affairs, along with the shipowner and their manpower agency back home.
On April 1, the MT Aqua 1 was about 17 nautical miles north of the Ras Laffan Industrial Hub in Qatar when it was struck by a cruise missile from Iran, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished by the members of the crew.
All 21 Filipino crew members who were on board the vessel were unharmed, following the incident.
