THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported on Saturday that 138 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with 59 dependents arrived in the country in two separate flights late Friday.
The development was part of government efforts to bring home Filipinos caught in the ongoing war between Iran, the United States and Israel.
At 9:56 p.m. Friday, Emirates flight EK334 from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, brought home 112 OFWs and 44 dependents, while 24 minutes later, Qatar Airways flight QR928 from Doha, Qatar, saw 26 OFWs and 15 dependents return home amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
”Our overseas Filipino workers were able to return home safely through the coordination of the Migrant Workers Offices and the Department of Foreign Affairs, via Philippine embassies,” the DMW said in Filipino via Facebook.
The OFWs were welcomed at Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport by representatives from the DMW, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Department of Health and the Manila International Airport Authority.
Upon arrival, the Filipinos were given financial and medical assistance, temporary accommodation and free transportation to bring them back to their home provinces.
