Kota Kinabalu: The parliamentary office of Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin conducted a targeted Free Helmet Replacement Programme in Kg Kopungit and Taman Keramat to improve road safety among motorcyclists.

A total of 100 new helmets were distributed on Sunday to eligible recipients, including local residents and food delivery riders identified as in need.

The distribution involved 50 recipients in Kg Kopungit, comprising 45 adults and five children, and 50 in Taman Keramat, including 39 adults and 11 Foodpanda riders.

The programme adopted a targeted approach by identifying recipients through village heads, block leaders and relevant stakeholders, and was carried out in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sabah, with recipients required to exchange old or non-compliant helmets.

Chan said the initiative aims to reduce the risk of serious injuries in road accidents and raise awareness on proper helmet use, adding that the programme may be expanded to other areas with a focus on delivery riders.
