The Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Sunday organised a special “Sunday on Cycle” programme at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Dharamsala under the Fit India Movement, launching a public awareness campaign in support of the proposed Commonwealth Games 2030 in India.
The event, themed “Start of Commonwealth Games 2030”, aimed at promoting fitness among youth and encouraging public participation and support for the international sporting event proposed to be hosted by India in 2030.
Renowned Indian wrestler and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Babita Phogat attended the programme as the chief guest, while Fit India Ambassador Deepak Mishra was also present on the occasion.
More than 100 athletes, trainees and local participants took part in the cycling rally organised as part of the campaign. Through the event, participants spread awareness about adopting a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise and environmental conservation.
Apart from cycling activities, yoga and skipping rope sessions were also organised during the programme.
Phogat interacted with young athletes and motivated them to pursue sports with dedication and discipline. She also shared fitness tips and encouraged girls to actively participate in sports and represent the country at international events.
Speaking during the event, Phogat encouraged youth to remain physically active and disciplined in life through sports and fitness activities.
Fit India Ambassador Deepak Mishra also addressed participants and stressed the importance of fitness and a drug-free lifestyle among youth. He has been actively associated with fitness awareness campaigns across the country and regularly participates in cycling, running and wellness programmes.
“Healthy citizens are the foundation of a developed India,” Mishra said while motivating participants to adopt fitness as a daily habit.
The programme also gave local athletes an opportunity to interact with experienced sportspersons and discuss challenges related to training and competitive sports.
SAI Regional Director, Chandigarh, Shailendra Kumar and Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa were also present during the event.
Officials said the initiative was part of the broader Fit India Movement aimed at creating awareness about physical fitness and strengthening sports culture across the country while building momentum for India’s proposed bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030.
