
SEMPORNA: Marine police seized 11.06kg of drugs suspected to be syabu worth over RM550,000 in the waters off Kampung Terusan Hujung, Pulau Bum Bum, near here, early Tuesday.
Sabah (Region 4) Marine Police Force (PPM) Commander ACP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said the seizure was made at 1.45am after they detected a speedboat based on intelligence regarding drug trafficking activities.
“When our men approached it, a man on the boat jumped into the sea and fled towards the shore.
“Upon inspecting the boat, we found 11 packages of drugs believed to be syabu,” he said, Tuesday.
He said the total value of the seizure, including the speedboat, was estimated at more than RM578,000, adding that the case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Ahmad Amri said the Sabah Region 4 PPM has recorded 15 cases under the Act so far this year, involving 24 arrests and total seizures worth more than RM718,000.
He said the Sabah Region 4 PPM would further intensify intelligence and patrols with the Sabah Narcotic Crime Investigation Department to curb drug trafficking and smuggling activities that could threaten the community’s safety and wellbeing.
