SUBANG – A total of 11 officers and members of the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) departed for Nepal on Saturday to assist in search and rescue (SAR) operations following floods and landslides in the country.
The team took off from the Subang Air Base at approximately 9am aboard a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) A400M aircraft.
Smart commander Senior Superintendent of Fire 1 Abdul Manaf Che Isa, who is leading the humanitarian mission, said the team would assist in SAR operations in disaster-hit areas.
The team is also carrying various operational equipment, including communications equipment, to support the mission.
The flight to Nepal is expected to take around five hours.
The mission is coordinated alongside the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) as part of Malaysia's efforts to assist the country in managing the disaster and in rescue operations for affected victims.
