
SOME 13 people, including children, managed to escape a predawn fire that swept through a block of workers’ housing quarters located in a Bakong plantation, about 100km from Miri city, at about 2.30am.
“The fire destroyed one block of workers’ housing quarters where six families were staying.
“All of them managed to escape the fire.
“The workers managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the rest of the housing estates using fire extinguishers,” the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in a press statement.
Firefighters from Marudi district and Miri city were deployed to the site following an emergency alert.
There are 84 families living near each other in the clustered housing quarters.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. – August 14, 2024.
