
Kota Kinabalu: Thirteen teams from all over the State are set to take part in the Sabah Unity and Veteran Ping Pong Championship to be held at SB Ping Pong Hall in Sunny Garden, here starting on Friday.
The tournament is organised by Tuaran Table Tennis Association and its opening ceremony will feature Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Caesar Mandela Malakun as the guest of honour.
Dr ChungThe closing ceremony on August 31 will be officiated by Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.
Organising chairman Dr Chung Tat Vui anticipates some 500 players and spectators to attend the competition.
He added that the competition will also feature a fair-play award alongside a VIP Individual event for invited guests and district association presidents.
Meanwhile, a meeting took place recently between Sabah Table Tennis Association (STTA) president Liew Kian Vun and his predecessor Dr. Edward Chua Soon Ann to address the development of table tennis in Sabah and the forthcoming Milo Malaysia Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships 2026, set to take place at Maksak Likas Hall in Kota Kinabalu from September 16-20.
Liew expressed gratitude for Chua’s advice and strong support, noting that the collaboration between previous and current leadership is crucial for the development of young talent in the region.
