14 nabbed in Tuaran drug ops

Tuaran: A mother who attempted to prevent officers from the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) from arresting her son over suspected drug abuse eventually calmed down after being briefed on the offence committed.

During an AADK Ops Cegah operation here on Friday, the woman initially pleaded with officers not to detain her son but later accepted the enforcement action after the operation commander explained that her son had tested positive for methamphetamine (syabu).

Tuaran AADK Chief Helmy Freddy, who led the operation, said a total of 14 individuals were arrested under the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 after testing positive for syabu.

Helmy said the operation was carried out with the assistance of the Sabah AADK Enforcement Unit following public complaints regarding drug abuse activities in several areas around the district.

He expressed appreciation to members of the public for their concern and cooperation in supporting efforts to combat drug abuse.

“Public cooperation is vital in helping the agency detect and take action against individuals involved in the abuse of prohibited substances.

“Efforts to combat drug abuse extend beyond enforcement and also emphasise treatment, rehabilitation and support to help those affected rebuild their lives.

“Members of the public who require advice or assistance related to substance or drug abuse are encouraged to seek help from their nearest AADK office.

“Any enquiries, complaints or requests for counselling can also be made through the AADK hotline at 1-800-22-2235 or 019-626 2233,” he said.4helda
