Kota Kinabalu: Sabah (KK) Badminton Club will be sending 14 shuttlers to take part in the World Chinese Badminton Federation, Sibu Badminton Championships 2022 scheduled to be held at the Catholic High School stadium in Sibu from August 25-28.

The tournament, making a return after a two-year lapse following the Covid-19 pandemic, is organised by the World Chinese Badminton Federation Sibu Club, and it is expected to draw more than 400 entries.

Team manager Datuk Anthony Linggian said his partnership with Bruni Garip that won a bronze in the men’s doubles event at the BWF World Senior Championship in 2021 is one of the potential medal winners in the doubles 70 years above, and combined age of 140 years category.

The other medal prospects are Sudirman Abas and Bakri Burahima who won silver in the men’s doubles 50 above at the last tournament held in Kuching back in 2019, while newcomers Henry Tai and partner Mahmud @ Jakariah Jamil are also tipped to win a medal in their maiden appearance in the men’s doubles 60 above category.

Anthony added that positive results will improve the shuttlers rankings for next year’s international tournaments such as the All England Senior Championships and the BWF World Senior Championship.

Meanwhile, Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Andi Muhd Suryady Bandi, who officially handed over the State flag to Anthony at a ceremony held on Wednesday, called on the players to give their best and make the State proud.
