Kota Kinabalu: A total of 140 cultural artistes will enliven the Malaysia Day 2025 celebration at Padang Merdeka on Sept 16, including special appearances by about 10 local artistes from Sabah and Sarawak.

Sabah Cultural Board (LKNS) General Manager Mackey Apison Lo said LKNS has been tasked with managing the multi-ethnic cultural performances starting from 4.30pm.

“Among the performances are buskers, Masmona and the welcoming arrangements for VVIPs, particularly the Head of State, which will feature ethnic art groups, including lion dance.

“LKNS has also prepared a special performance titled Gerbang Perpaduan Madani, portraying the journey of Sabahans and Malaysians of various races, ethnicities and cultures living harmoniously under one sovereignty. It highlights respect, love and the spirit of helping one another as the core of Malaysian society,” he told the media after an interview at Sabah FM.

He said six cultural groups will take part, namely the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), Borneo Arts, Artums, Praps, Ngalays, Artis Wayang Sabah and the KBS Youth Cultural Group.

“The training has been ongoing for over a month, involving ethnic associations and cultural groups in Kota Kinabalu. Throughout the sessions, they interacted and forged unity and cooperation, showcasing Sabah’s uniqueness through dance, songs and costumes,” he added.

Also making special appearances are Sarawak artiste Mawat, alongside Sabah artistes, including Elica Paujin, Dr Sharif Zainal, Ayin, Jacklyn Chia, Afiq Ahmed, Eylia Guntabid, Rey Guntabid and Maldini Sidney.
