PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested 15 people who recently used a gas stove to cook while gathered at a petrol station in Genting Highlands, Pahang.

Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said the 10 men and five women were arrested after presenting themselves at the Bentong district police station yesterday, Harian Metro reported.

He said they were released on police bail after giving their statements.

“The investigation papers are being completed, and statements from four witnesses have been recorded to assist with the investigation,” he was quoted as saying.

Last Wednesday, Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said police had received a report about a viral video clip on social media showing a group of people cooking at the petrol station.

In a Bernama report, Zaiham said initial investigations found that the 50-second clip was uploaded on Monday by vehicle owners who took part in the gathering.

He said police received complaints that vehicle owners often gathered at the petrol station, which he said disturbed public order and caused a nuisance to other motorists passing through.

The case is being investigated under Section 268 of the Penal Code for causing a public nuisance and Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangering life or personal safety.
