Following an early morning attack on the Ulu Tiram police station, security controls at police stations and areas with high-profile individuals, including the palace, will be significantly strengthened. This directive comes from Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who emphasized the importance of increased vigilance for the safety of police personnel and high-profile figures, such as the Menteri Besar.
Addressing the media at the Ulu Tiram police station, IGP Razarudin highlighted the need for proactive measures to counter potential threats from radical groups like Jemaah Islamiyah (JI). "This is our intervention action to block any further moves of the Jemaah Islamiyah. It is essential and our responsibility," he stated. He also urged officers and personnel, both on and off duty, to maintain heightened awareness and vigilance.
The attack on the Ulu Tiram police station occurred at 2:45 am, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. Among the deceased were two police personnel, both 22 years old, and a 21-year-old suspect who was shot dead at the scene. Additionally, one police officer sustained injuries during the incident.
The assailant, who was killed during the attack, is believed to be a member of Jemaah Islamiyah. Following the incident, authorities conducted a raid at the suspect's residence in Ulu Tiram. During this operation, five members of the suspect's family, aged between 19 and 62, were arrested for further investigation.
