Kota Kinabalu: A 15-member squad from the Sabah Karate Association (SKA) is set to compete in the Thailand Karate Open at Kasetsart University in Bangkok from August 14 to 16.
SKA Secretary General Julian Chin said the athletes to be accompanied by two coaches are well prepared for the competition but carry no official targets.
“These athletes are not competing in the Malaysia Games (Sukma); rather, their participation is part of our annual development programme.
“Our primary objective is to provide them with international exposure and valuable competitive experience,” he said.
At the previous meet last year, SKA represented by five athletes managed to return with two golds and one bronze.
