TAWAU: An estimated 150 kg of electrical wires and cables of various sizes were seized in a power cut operation around Kg Batu 15 and Kg Jati, Batu 5 Jalan Apas.

Tawau district police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the operation was carried out from 9 am to 1pm, led by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) together with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) and several other agencies.

According to him, three Tawau policemen together with 42 SESB personnel assisted by three SESB auxiliary policemen also participated in the operation.

Meanwhile, Jasmin said the police in cooperation with SESB would take strict action against any party for stealing electricity.

This was because, he said, the effect of this cable theft resulted in the instability of the electricity supply around the Tawau district.

Therefore, he asked for public cooperation by reporting to SESB if they had information related to cases of electricity theft or illegal connection.

“This activity does not only cause losses to SESB but harms all users and customers when there is a supply interruption due to indirect overcurrent,” he said.
