Kota Kinabalu: A total of 160 associations will take part in lion and dragon dance performances during the Chinese New Year Carnival 2026 at Lintasan Deasoka, starting Feb 9.

Sabah Chinese Associations Federation President Tan Sri Dr Goh Tian Chuan said the three-night carnival will also feature interactive activities and cultural performances showcasing Chinese customs and traditions.

He added that the carnival is open to all communities, regardless of race or religion, to strengthen unity and harmony among the people of Sabah. Youth participation will include various ethnic groups, including Chinese, Dusun Kadazan and Murut.

“This reflects the moderation, friendliness, and harmony in Sabah, where people live together regardless of race or religion,” he said during an interview at Sabah VFM on Tuesday.

Dr Goh also said the carnival’s opening ceremony will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.

An estimated 300 stalls will be set up along Jalan Gaya, offering traditional Chinese food, handicrafts, and local products.
