wk yo m’sian girl lies about being kidnapped to avoid getting scolded for reaching home late
A 16-year-old schoolgirl allegedly made up a story about nearly being kidnapped after she missed her transport home and feared being scolded by her family.

According to media reports, Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nazron Abdul Yusof said police received a report from the teenager at 4.36pm on July 14.

In her report, the girl claimed that she had narrowly escaped being kidnapped while walking along an alley in a residential area in Semenyih.

CCTV footage told a different story

After conducting investigations and reviewing CCTV footage from the area, police discovered inconsistencies in the teenager’s statement.

Further checks revealed that she had missed her transport home after school.

As she was worried that her family would scold her for returning late, she allegedly fabricated the attempted kidnapping story and lodged a police report.

Police have since opened a separate investigation into the teenager for allegedly providing false information.

The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving false information to a public servant.

If convicted, she could face up to six months in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Nazron reminded the public that police take false reports seriously, as they can waste enforcement resources and cause unnecessary fear among the public.

He also urged members of the public to provide truthful, accurate and complete information when lodging police reports, warning that those who fabricate or conceal facts may face legal action.
