Previously, we shared how a 36-year-old police officer from the Seremban District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) has been suffering from memory loss due to serious injuries he suffered following an accident where a 17-year-old ‘Mat Rempit’ or illegal street racer crashed his motorbike into him on 28 July.
Now, almost 2 months after the incident, the 17-year-old suspect has finally been charged in court, as reported by Sinar Harian.
17-year-old ‘Mat Rempit’ pleads guilty to reckless and dangerous driving
The 17-year-old accused was charged at the Seremban Traffic Magistrate Court earlier today for reckless and dangerous driving under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Given that the accused was underage, the court proceeding was made behind closed doors, with his identity also not revealed.
In the charge sheet read in front of Magistrate Marlissa Mohd Fahmy, the 17-year-old ‘Mat Rempit’ was accused of riding his Yamaha Y15ZR recklessly, dangerously and against the flow of traffic until he caused serious injuries to a member of the public, the victim, Corporal Mohamed Aliff Adi.
The offence happened at around 2am on 28 July 2024 at kilometre 36 of the Kajang-Seremban Highway southbound.
He faces up to 5 years in jail and a fine if convicted
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and may face imprisonment of up to 5 years and a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000 if convicted.
He shall also be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of not less than five years from the date of the conviction.
The court allowed bail of RM1,500 and set the trial date for 20 November.
