Eighteen people were injured on Friday afternoon when a private bus collided with a goods carrier before crashing into a retaining wall near the Kangra Deputy Commissioner’s office.
According to the police, the accident occurred when the speeding bus lost control while overtaking and struck an oncoming goods carrier. The impact dragged the smaller vehicle downhill, while the bus rammed into the wall.
All the injured, including both drivers, were rushed to the Zonal Hospital in Dharamsala. Hospital sources confirmed that while multiple passengers sustained injuries, none was in critical condition. Necessary medical examinations, including X-rays and CT scans, were conducted, and the victims remained under observation.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation. Drivers’ blood samples were preserved for testing, and Medico-Legal Certificates (MLCs) were issued for the injured. Bir Bahadur, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kangra, stated that a preliminary probe revealed the bus driver was driving negligibly and had entered the wrong lane while overtaking.
“Based on our findings, a case has been registered against the bus driver under Sections 281 and 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway,” Bahadur said.
