The 2026 World Cup will have a profound impact on the job market in the United States.

The tournament, often described as the greatest show on earth, begins in Mexico later this month but will also be played across the United States and Canada.

It is the first World Cup in North America since the 1994 edition, which saw Brazil win its fourth World Cup at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California by beating Italy by way of a penalty shootout.

Now, the biggest tournament in soccer will return to the continent, and almost 200,000 jobs will be created as a result.

White House confirm more than 185,000 jobs will be created because of the World Cup

President Donald J Trump created a White House Task Force to oversee the World Cup.

The White House’s official website has confirmed that the tournament will see more than 185,000 jobs created.

To quote the website, it says: “185,000+ jobs are projected to be created across the U.S. through the FIFA World Cup 2026.”

The tournament will be played across 11 US cities, running until July 19.

Clearly, that will have a huge impact on the job market and the showpiece event also celebrates the nation’s 250 anniversary.

It promises to be the biggest World Cup of all time, not least because of the expanded format of the tournament too.

For the first time in the World Cup’s 96-year history, 48 countries will compete across three countries to win a place at the final in New York next month.

Argentina are the current World Cup holders after they beat France in a penalty shootout during the last tournament in Qatar in the winter of 2022.

Brazil is the most successful country in its history, winning the World Cup five times.

The USMNT competed in every World Cup from 1990 until 2014, missing the 2018 edition in Russia before returning in 2022. Their best finish to date is when they made the semi-finals during the first tournament in history back in 1930, which was held in Uruguay.

The most famous US result in World Cup history has to be when they shocked England by beating them 1-0 in the 1950 tournament held in Brazil.
