2,000 join Klang's Jom 'Hike' Sihat Fest promoting healthy lifestyle

KLANG, June 28 - About 2,000 participants of various races and age groups joined the Jom ‘Hike’ Sihat Fest 2026 organised by the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), which took place in a lively atmosphere at Taman Rakyat, Seri Andalas today.

Held in conjunction with Father’s Day, the programme not only encouraged a healthy lifestyle but also served as a platform to strengthen social ties within the local community.

Klang Mayor Dato’ Abdul Hamid Hussain said the programme also emphasised the importance of health care through physical activity and balanced nutrition.

He said collaboration with the Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre added value to the event, with various free health screening and counselling services provided, including mammogram screening and cervical cancer tests.

“Programmes like this will attract public interest towards health. Nowadays, health is very important and it all starts with food.

“So we need to carry out healthy activities. With today’s programme, we hiked a 3km route, which allows for high calorie burning.

"We hope health facilities can be maintained so such programmes can continue,” he told reporters at the event.

Meanwhile, Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre director Tan Suet Guan said regular health screenings are necessary to enable diseases to be detected early before they become more serious.

“Today’s screenings can detect diseases at an early stage before they become more serious. Prevention, early detection and healthy lifestyle habits are important to ensure individuals lead healthier lives,” she said.

The programme was also enlivened with a zumba session, tax payment counters by MBDK, an organ donation campaign, family games, balloon art activities and a lucky draw.
