- Northwest Naturals of Portland, Oregon has issued a voluntary recall for select lots of its frozen raw pet food products due to potential contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
- The affected products include 53 cases of 2-pound bags of Northwest Naturals Frozen Chicken Recipe for cats (Lot B-5, UPC 087316384956) and 19 cases of 6-pound bags of Northwest Naturals Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe (Lot B-19, UPC 087316380392), which were distributed to retail stores nationwide.
- The recall was initiated after testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration revealed that the cat food tested positive for Salmonella, while the dog food tested positive for both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
- Exposure to these bacteria poses health risks to both pets and humans who handle the products, with potential symptoms ranging from gastrointestinal illness and fever to severe complications in pets, newborns, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals.
- No animal or human illnesses have been reported to date, but consumers who purchased the recalled pet food are advised to stop using it immediately and return unused portions to the place of purchase for a full refund.
