PETALING JAYA: Federal police have opened investigation papers into two individuals over statements they are alleged to have made regarding the National Council for Islamic Affairs (MKI).

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain did not disclose the identity of the two persons.

Shuhaily said the probes are being conducted by Bukit Aman’s classified criminal investigation unit (D5) under the Sedition Act 1948, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which deals with improper use of network facilities.

“The cases are still being investigated and we advise the public against speculating on the matter which could disrupt investigations.

Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham recently stirred controversy for proposing that non-Muslim constitutional experts be included in a committee studying the conflicts between shariah laws and the Federal Constitution.

The committee had been formed by the MKI, which is chaired by Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

In response, Sultan Sharafuddin reminded non-Muslims to respect and refrain from interfering in matters relating to Islamic affairs.

Ngeh later apologised for his remarks, saying his proposal was made to ensure that all views were considered before amendments are made to the constitution.

The four-time DAP MP also said he was unaware that the special committee had actually been formed by the MKI.
