KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened investigation papers against two individuals regarding their statements related to the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain (pix) said both cases are being investigated by the CID’s Classified Crime Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) under the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 4 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Since the cases are still under investigation, he advised the public not to resort to any speculation that could disrupt the investigation process.

“The public is reminded to always be cautious about sensitive issues and not to make any statements that could affect public order and national security,” he said in a statement today.

Before this, Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham was reported to have proposed that the government appoint non-Muslim experts to assist the special committee to study issues related to the competencies of state legislative assemblies in enacting Islamic laws. -Bernama
