A pall of gloom descended on Rampur village on Monday morning after news spread of the deaths of two brothers whose bodies were recovered from the Mandi Gobindgarh flyover late on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Jagdev Singh and Harjeet Singh. Police suspect that an unidentified vehicle may have struck them while they were repairing a car that had developed a technical snag on the flyover.
According to family members, Jagdev was returning to his village from Rajpura when his vehicle broke down on the Mandi Gobindgarh flyover. He called his younger brother Harjeet for assistance. Harjeet brought a replacement battery from Rampur and reached the spot to help.
Mandi Gobindgarh SHO Sandeep Singh said the police received information about the incident around 11 pm. Upon reaching the spot, officers found the bodies near the flyover.
“The investigation is challenging as there are no CCTV cameras in the area. However, it appears that some vehicle hit the brothers while they were repairing the car. They died on the spot,” he said.
The SHO added that the bodies had been kept in the mortuary and that a case would be registered after recording statements from the family members.
Jagdev is survived by his wife and two children, including a one-year-old son. Harjeet was also married and was scheduled to join his wife in Canada on June 26.
