2 gang robbery suspects held in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Police believe they have solved a gang robbery case in less than 24 hours with the arrest of two suspects on Monday.

District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy Panyau, said the two suspects allegedly robbed a 47-year-old man at Lorong Kiosk Dataran Palma about 11.30pm on Sunday.

“The two suspects attempted to hurt the victim before taking away his personal document and cash.

They tested positive for taking drugs,” he said.

Jimmy said further investigation is ongoing under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

In separate cases, police detained three men in the Ops Tapis carried out at Jalan Pantai and Kampung Puyut on Sunday. Jimmy said all three suspects were detained for possessing and drug abuse.

“The first suspect, a local man aged 24 was detained for having 0.07 grammes of syabu while the second suspect, a 26-year-old Filipino was detained with 0.14 grammes of syabu.

The second suspect also did not possess any identification document and tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.

“The third suspect, a 33-year-old local was detained for possessing 0.15 grammes of syabu and tested positive for taking drugs. Prior to his arrest, the suspect acting aggressively, attempted to escape from the police,” he said.

Jimmy said all the suspects were currently in their custody and would apply for remand under Section 117 of Criminal Procedure Code for further investigation.

Police urged members of Public to convey information on drug-related activities to assist in crime prevention efforts and to ensure safety of the community.
