Sandakan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek, said his team received the report at midnight after the 2 housewives claimed they were robbery victims.
The women, aged 20 and 34, who are housewives, claimed they were robbed by three knife-wielding men in a town area in Sandakan, Sabah around 7 PM.

They said their phones and cash were stolen
In their police report, the two friends claimed that three knife-wielding men had stolen their mobile phones and RM136 in cash, according to Berita Harian.
However, when the police looked into their statements and conducted investigations, they found inconsistencies that didn’t add up and raised doubts about the story.
“Further investigation revealed that the alleged robbery never occurred. Instead, they had pawned their mobile phones at a pawn shop,” explained Abdul Fuad.

They wanted to use the money to buy makeup
Abdul Fuad explained that the 2 suspects acted out of desperation to buy cosmetic products but were afraid their husbands would find out they had pawned their phones.
Worried about being scolded by their husbands for pawning their mobile phones to buy makeup, the women decided to file false robbery reports.
“The women have been detained and will be investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information. The public is advised against such actions as a conviction under this section carries a penalty of six months in prison, a RM2,000 fine, or both,” he added.
