
SANDAKAN: A bold attempt by two local women to stage a false armed robbery claim was exposed following police investigations which revealed the alleged crime never took place.
District Police Chief ACP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said they received a report at 12.05pm on Wednesday from a 34-year-old woman and her 20-year-old friend.
Advertisement“In the report, the women claimed they were robbed by three individuals armed with knives in Sandakan town at 7pm on Tuesday,” Abdul Fuad said.
The women alleged that their mobile phones and RM136 in cash were stolen during the incident.

“Our investigation uncovered significant contradictions in their accounts. It turns out that the alleged robbery never happened.

The two housewives then admitted their desperate need for cash to buy cosmetic products, which drove them to create the false report.

If convicted, they could face up to six months in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Abdul Fuad said false reports waste valuable time and resources.
