2 Italian tourists among 19 hurt in Sabah bus crash

TWO female Italian tourists were among 19 people injured when the express bus they were travelling in plunged into a ravine in Sabah, Bernama reports.

Lahad Datu police chief Dzulbaharin Ismail said two local women aged 22 and 36 sustained severe injuries in the 9pm crash in Jalan Silam, Lahad Datu.

He said a sample of the bus driver's blood was sent to the Chemistry Department to be tested for alcohol and drugs.

 The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving carelessly.

Eyewitnesses should call Inspector Muhammad Rasul Ramlee at 089-88 1255 or the Lahad Datu police station.

Lahad Fire and Rescue Station chief Datu Sumsoa Rashid said the bus had plunged 50 metres into a ravine.

The injured were taken to the Lahad Datu Hospital for medical attention. – June 21, 2024.
