In a significant action over drug trafficking networks, Shimla police have arrested two key interstate drug suppliers from Punjab and Chandigarh for being involved in two different interstate drug trafficking networks.

The accused have been identified as Shiv Shankar, resident of Bilari in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, who was arrested from Chandigarh and Gurmeet alias Billa, resident of Faridkot, Punjab, who was arrested from Ludhiana.

Providing the information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shimla, Gaurav Singh said the involvement of the accused was revealed following the arrest of five Haryana residents named Anjeet, Irfan, Ravikant, Mukesh and Narendra, who were nabbed by the police in Boileauganj area, with 9,397 grams of chitta (heroin) on March 20.

He said following their arrest, a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, was registered against them and an investigation was initiated.

“During the investigation, the accused were taken into police remand. Intensive interrogation of the accused and analysis of digital evidence were carried out to trace backward linkages and the supply chain. Investigation revealed that the accused had procured the heroin from Gurmeet, who was in touch with the accused through a virtual number. A police team was dispatched to Punjab and the accused was arrested today” said the SSP.

“In another case registered on April 12, this year, in which an individual, named Kuldeep Verma, was arrested with 8.34 g heroin from Theog. Police during the investigation, found that the accused had procured the contraband from Shiv Shankar. A team was then dispatched to arrest the accused who was nabbed from Chandigarh today” he said.

The SSP also said further investigations are going on and involvement of more accused in these networks are being ascertained.
