According to ChinaPress, there are three masked robbers made off with 81 pieces of gold jewellery worth a staggering RM1.7475 million after raiding a jewellery shop at Genting Highlands and the entire heist reportedly took just two minutes.
Armed with nothing more than an axe and a crowbar hammer, the three suspects allegedly stormed the jewellery store at Genting SkyAvenue and smashed their way through the display cabinets before fleeing with around 2.5kg of gold jewellery.
Police said the robbery took place at approximately 11.39am yesterday at a Chow Tai Fook jewellery outlet located on the second floor of SkyAvenue Shopping Mall, at unit T2A-19.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
The Entire Heist Took Just Two Minutes
Pahang Acting Chief of Police Datuk Azri Akhmar said preliminary investigations found that the three suspects were wearing masks, caps and jackets when they entered the premises.
The suspects are believed to have used an axe and a crowbar hammer to break open and smash the glass display cabinets.
They then grabbed five containers containing a total of 81 pieces of various types of gold jewellery.
“The total weight of the stolen jewellery was approximately 2.5kg, with an estimated value of RM1.7475 million,” Azri said in a statement.
What was particularly striking was how quickly the robbery was carried out.
Police believe the entire incident lasted only about two minutes.
The suspects allegedly left the jewellery shop at around 11.41am just moments after entering.
No Customers or Security Guards Were Present
At the time of the robbery, two Chinese employees, a man and a woman were inside the shop, while another female Chinese employee was preparing to leave for her break.
There were no customers inside the store when the robbery took place.
Police also confirmed that no security guard was stationed at the premises at the time.
Despite the suspects being armed with an axe and crowbar hammer, no injuries were reported.
The case was brought to police attention after a security guard contacted the Genting Highlands police station at around noon to report the robbery.
Police Launch More Than Four Hours of Roadblocks
Following the robbery, police launched a large-scale interception operation at around 12pm.
Roadblocks and checks were carried out at the second checkpoint in Genting Highlands as well as along roads leading towards Batang Kali.
The operation continued for more than four hours before ending at approximately 4.15pm.
Forensic teams from the Criminal Investigation Department of Bukit Aman and the Pahang Police Headquarters were also sent to the scene to gather evidence and assist with investigations.
BMW Used as Getaway Vehicle
Investigators believe the suspects escaped in a luxury BMW registered to a man from Ampang, Selangor.
Police are now working to identify and locate all three suspects.
Azri said police were treating the case seriously and were carrying out a comprehensive investigation to track down the suspects and bring them to justice.
With more than RM1.7 million worth of jewellery allegedly stolen in just two minutes, the robbery has become a major focus of the ongoing police investigation.
For now, investigators are working to piece together the suspects’ movements before and after the brazen daylight heist and determine where the stolen jewellery may have gone.
