A team of STF Unit, Karnal, has apprehended two criminals after a brief exchange of fire in Shahabad area of Kurukshetra on Tuesday night.

They were identified as Harsh Singh and Kashish Luthra, residents of Amritsar, Punjab. They are reportedly the key shooters of the Himanshu Bhau gang.

According to information, during patrolling and checking under the jurisdiction of Shahabad police station, the STF Karnal received a specific intelligence regarding the presence of these. Following the tip-off, as the police team tried to apprehend them, they opened fire on the STF personnel. During the exchange of fire, a bullet struck the bullet-proof jacket of SI Praveen Kumar.

In retaliatory action, the STF unit personnel also opened fire in which both the accused suffered injuries in their legs and were overpowered. Two foreign-made pistols, live cartridges, and mobile phones were seized from them. Around 20 rounds were reportedly fired between the criminals and the STF personnel, near Jat Sabha, Ratangarh village in Shahabad.

The injured criminals were taken to the CHC Shahabad, where they were referred to the LNJP District Civil Hospital in Kurukshetra.

A businessman was reportedly on their target.
