TWENTY Chinese men have been remanded for four days to assist police investigations into a suspected love scam syndicate allegedly operating through social media applications.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nurhanisah S H Sahul Hamid and takes effect today, allowing police to conduct further investigations into the case.
All 20 foreign suspects are represented by lawyer Cheah Eng Soon.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 41, were arrested during a raid on a three-storey house in Solok Sungai Emas, Batu Ferringhi, at about 7.05pm yesterday.
They are suspected of targeting victims in China and using the Telegram messaging application to carry out the alleged scam.
During the raid, police reportedly seized more than 100 mobile phones of various brands, three laptops, several notebooks and other equipment believed to have been used in the operation.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and the suspects’ respective roles. - August 24, 2026
