KUALA LUMPUR - A former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has been remanded for seven days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its probe following the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report.

Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah issued the remand order—effective from today until next Thursday (Aug 27)—following an application by the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court this morning.

The suspect, in his 60s, arrived at the court complex at 9:35 am clad in the signature orange MACC lockup attire.

His arrest comes on the heels of MACC’s crackdown involving seven individuals brought in for questioning over the RCI findings. They include a former CEO of a shipping company, a construction company director, a former company director, and four former senior management staff of Tabung Haji.

Suspect transactions, hidden information

The RCI report—released via the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) portal on July 29—recommended a full forensic audit into past investment decisions that triggered severe asset devaluations for the pilgrimage fund.

Investigating TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020, the commission flagged several troubled investments requiring forensic scrutiny after uncovering suspicious transactions and deliberate concealment of information.

The RCI's scope focused on findings previously highlighted by audit and consulting firms PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and Roland Berger, excluding the restructuring and recovery plan implemented at the time. - August 21, 2026
