KUALA LUMPUR - J&T Express Malaysia aims to install 20 smart parcel lockers at selected high-traffic light rail transit (LRT) stations nationwide by the end of this year, benefiting an estimated 80,000 commuters.
Its vice-president Vincent Low said the initiative, undertaken in collaboration with Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd (PRIDE) and YoYi Station, is designed to provide commuters with a more convenient self-service option for parcel collection and drop-off.
The smart parcel lockers support two-way transactions, enabling customers to collect incoming parcels as well as send parcels by following the on-screen instructions.
Vincent said the initiative complements J&T Express Malaysia's core door-to-door delivery service by offering greater flexibility for last-mile delivery as parcel volumes continue to increase.
"We handle an average of three million parcels daily in Malaysia. While door-to-door delivery remains our primary service, providing flexible last-mile solutions is essential as parcel volumes continue to grow," he said at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between J&T Express Malaysia, YoYi Station and PRIDE, here today.
Vincent said the first phase of the rollout saw the installation of smart parcel lockers at LRT Kerinchi and LRT Bangsar, which were selected for their high commuter traffic to maximise accessibility and convenience.
Each smart parcel locker can accommodate up to 200 compartments, providing Malaysians with a more flexible and convenient way to collect and send parcels as part of their daily commute.
He said the company is continuously enhancing its technological capabilities to better meet customers' evolving needs and improve the overall delivery experience.
Currently, J&T Express operates about 3,000 pick-up and drop-off (PUDO) points nationwide, allowing customers to collect their parcels at designated locations.
He said the company expects self-collection adoption to increase from the current five per cent to 10 per cent by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, PRIDE chief executive officer Syed Redza Algadrie Syed Hassan said beyond the physical lockers, this collaboration leverages the MyRapid Pulse platform to deliver exclusive J&T Express promotions, targeted engagement campaigns and other value-added digital services.
