Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) has backed Deputy Chief Minister II cum State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun's call for the Federal Government to review the diesel subsidy system in Sabah.
Its President Datuk Michael Lui (pic) said the current 200-litre monthly quota does not reflect Sabah's geographical and transport needs, placing additional cost pressures on businesses and consumers.
He said Sabah's vast distances, limited public transport and reliance on diesel by the logistics, agriculture and fisheries sectors require a more suitable subsidy mechanism.
Michael also welcomed the State Government's move to establish a special task force to review the scheme and urged the Federal Government to adopt a fairer approach based on the realities of East Malaysia.
