After the long-winded and the oscar worthy moments of GE15, you may start to take a breath and flip through your calendar as we jump right into the new year very soon with a long weekend. We have lost quite a number of opportunities this past pandemic, with the reopening of the world, remember to make use of the long weekends and public holidays and utilise your leaves wisely. To the employed, calculate and prepare your leaves, be in to plan to balik kampung or a road trip or a long-awaited vacation overseas, it's time to take our old man glasses and make a plan.

Here is a list of long weekends to take note of, all compiled in an image, for your easy reference:

To the parents, grandparents and students here, the national school holiday calendar is as follows:

  • Term 1 holidays: 13 March 2023, Monday to 22 March 2023, Wednesday
  • Mid-year holidays: 22 May 2023, Monday to 7 June 2023, Wednesday
  • Term 2 holidays: 24 July 2023, Monday to 2 August 2023, Wednesday
  • End-year holidays: 20 November 2023, Monday to 31 December 2023, Sunday

There's also some advice on which day(s) to apply for leave to make the most of the long weekends for your convenience.

Long Break Opportunity

January: Chinese New Year: 22 to 24 Jan (Sun - Tue); 3 days

You may take 3 days' leaves from Wednesday to Friday and you will get the full week off, which comes to a whopping 9 days off for your CNY relaxation at the start of the year.

April: Hari Raya Aidilfitri: 22 to 24 Apr, (Sat - Mon); 3 days

For our Muslim friends, this is the time of the year you can take another few days off to enjoy a longer break with your family and friends this festive season.

May: Labour Day and Wesak Day: 1 and 4 May (Mon & Thu), 2 days

Another opportunity for a 9-days break! Take the 2nd and 3rd off and you can rest from Apr 29 to May 7, one shot, no interruption.

Long Weekends without taking any leaves

June: 3rd to 5th, (Sat - Mon); 3 days

November: 11th to 13th, (Sat - Mon); 3 days

Four days off with one day to apply leave

June: 29th to 2nd Jul, (Thu - Sun); 4 days [take Friday, 30th June off]

August: 31st to 3rd Sept; (Thu - Sun); 4 days [take Friday, 1st Sept off]

September: 28th to 1 Oct; (Thu - Sun); 4 days [take Friday, 29th Sept off]

Take more leaves, more off!

July: 19th to 23rd, (Wed-Sun); 5 days [take Thursday, 20 July and Friday, 21st July off]

December: Christmas & New Year Break

As the year comes to a stop, businesses slow down, people like to chill and prepare for the festive season and the new year. Take the remainder leaves to get the whole week off and you will end the year will a bang!

Simply put, there are a lot of long weekends in 2023 that you may take advantage of. In fact, with good preparation, you may even take a nine-day vacation by requesting only two or three days of annual leave. Hope that you will be able to arrange wonderful excursions to rejuvenate yourself and reconnect with family members as a result of this.
