Youth and Sports Ministry focuses on seamless coordination for the 2027 SEA Games, which will be hosted across Sarawak, Penang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
ALOR SETAR: The Ministry of Youth and Sports is prioritising logistics coordination to avoid problems during Malaysia’s hosting of the 2027 SEA Games. The event will be held across four states: Sarawak, Penang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari acknowledged this multi-venue format presents a major organisational challenge. He stated the ministry will ensure thorough coordination to meet it.
A series of discussions with the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC) 2027 secretariat are already underway. The preparations are currently in Phase 1, involving athlete and facility readiness.
“We will have a meeting with the MASOC to finalise the preparations,” said Dr Mohammed Taufiq. Updates on teams, mascots and other elements will be announced periodically.
He emphasised that preventing logistics issues is paramount due to the four-state hosting plan. The ministry is also finalising the number of sports to be contested at the Games.
“We are confident that with thorough preparations being made, with the cooperation of all parties involved, we will be able to do our best as organisers,” he added.
Separately, the minister commented on the pending appeal for seven national heritage football players at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He urged the Football Association of Malaysia to stay focused on preparing for the Asian Cup qualifier against Vietnam on March 31.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq expressed hope the final decision would not significantly impact Malaysian football’s development. He also called for calm among supporters awaiting the ruling.
