
MANILA, Philippines — Congress opened the Second Regular Session of the 20th Congress, with the passage of the 2027 national budget bill topping the agenda.
Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian pounded the gavel in the Senate session hall shortly past 10 a.m., as witnessed by 20 other senators.
The Senate is expected to work overtime as an impeachment court while continuing its legislative responsibilities, which also include deliberating on the pending priority bills of the Marcos administration.
The House of Representatives also opened its session and is expected to join the Senate for the 5th State of the Nation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at 4 p.m.
