22 families homeless in Sandakan fire

SANDAKAN: Some 22 families in Mile 3 were made homeless, Wednesday, when fire destroyed their houses.

District Fire and Rescue Chief Severinus Sainkui said they received an emergency call at 4.07pm and deployed 32 firefighters to the scene led by Rosemidian Majid.

“No casualties were reported,” he said.

He said the fire was brought under control at 6.42pm and the cause and loss are still under investigation.

She urged all affected victims to remain resilient in facing the challenges.

Vivian emphasised the need for more low-cost housing and PPR in Sandakan to prevent the construction of slums and ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

Also present at the scene were the police, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Welfare Department and National Security Council.
