A 22-year-old youth was reportedly shot dead by a group of assailants in the Tehsilpura area late Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Kunal, a resident of the area.

The Ram Bagh police have registered a murder case against key accused Vansh and 15 to 20 unidentified accomplices on the complaint of the victim’s father, Pawan Kumar, a resident of Tung Bala.

According to the complaint, Kunal had left home around 9 pm on Wednesday to buy momos from the local market. Around 10 pm, his father spoke to him over phone and asked him to return home early.

Kunal reportedly told him that he would return soon. However, the family later received a call from the Ram Bagh police on Thursday morning informing them that an unidentified body had been found, asking them to reach the spot for identification.

Pawan Kumar identified the body as that of his son. The victim’s father alleged that the accused first attacked Kunal with sharp-edged weapons in the Tehsilpura area, leaving him critically injured. He claimed the assailants later took the injured towards Rani Bazaar on a scooter before shooting him dead and fleeing the scene.

Pawan Kumar said his son worked at a salon, while he himself earns a livelihood by driving a rickshaw. He added that Kunal was his only son.

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner

(ADCP) Harpal Singh said police teams had been constituted to identify and arrest the accused persons. He said preliminary investigation suggested that the victim and the main accused, Vansh, knew each other and had an ongoing dispute reportedly linked to a video shoot.

The police said further investigation in the case was underway.
