Malaysia’s 2026 Bahrain GP at Sepang draws over 260,000 fans, setting a new attendance record and surpassing the 2008 Malaysian GP

KUALA LUMPUR: Prix (GP) in Malaysia 2026, setting a new attendance record for Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

SIC in a statement said the number of spectators was confirmed by Bahrain International Circuit chief executive Sheikh Salman Isa Al Khalifa.

This includes 103,000 fans who attended yesterday’s race in the iconic Malaysian circuit.

Shaikh Salman in the same statement said the Formula One (F1) platform provided an opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s culture and hospitality to fans across the region at the iconic venue in Malaysia.

“Over 260,000 fans came to witness the biggest event ever held at Sepang International Circuit and we are truly grateful to them for bringing their passion and energy,” he said in a statement.

The number surpassed the previous 126,690 spectators recorded for the 2008 Malaysian GP.

In July, Formula 1 confirmed Malaysia as the host of the Gulf Air Bahrain GP from Oct 2 to 4 following an agreement involving Formula 1, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the governments of Malaysia and Bahrain.

The agreement kept the Bahrain GP on the 2026 F1 calendar after the race was cancelled earlier in the season due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

SIC hosted the Malaysian GP from 1999 until 2017.
