Kota Kinabalu: Sabah registered 267 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, 12 cases lower than Wednesday’s 279.
“A total of 173 out of the 267 cases today were recorded in Kota Kinabalu, constituting about 64.8 per cent of the overall cases on Thursday,” said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
The large number in Kota Kinabalu consisted of both recent cases and pending cases in which test sample results were only registered on Thursday.
“Taking into account the pending results, Kota Kinabalu saw a surge of 86 cases, or more than twice as many infections as the day before,” said Masidi in a statement, Thursday.
Up to 70.5 per cent of the cases were caused by sporadic infections, he added.
Overall, there were much more districts that showed a reduction (17) of new cases.
Among the districts that saw a decline were Putatan (-24), Sandakan (-15), Beaufort (-13), Papar (-11) and Penampang (-6).
“Today, nine districts - as opposed to just four yesterday (Wednesday) – did not report any new cases,” said Masidi, adding the total test samples on Thursday was 3,329 with a positive percentage of 9.88 per cent.
Out of the 267 cases, 263 were in categories one and two and four were in category three.
