PENAMPANG: A total of 28 primary and secondary schools in Penampang received RM230,000 in donations from Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) Thursday, as part of efforts to drive educational development.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said 24 primary schools received RM5,000 each, while four secondary schools received RM10,000 each.

He said five primary schools and two secondary schools implementing the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) were given additional assistance of RM10,000 each.

“This contribution reflects my commitment, and that of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Kuskop), particularly Bank Rakyat and Yayasan Bank Rakyat, in driving educational development programmes here,” he said in a statement after presenting the donations.

Also present were YBR Chairman Datuk Philip Lasimbang and YBR Chief Executive Officer Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani. Bank Rakyat is an agency under Kuskop.

Ewon said this assistance programme began in 2023 and has been implemented annually under the “Look East Policy Within the Country,” (Kuskop’s perspective).

“I hope this will assist schools, teachers and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in complementing the efforts of the whole government approach to the development of the national education sector,” he said.

As the Member of Parliament for Penampang, he also approved an allocation of RM50,000 under the Member of Parliament allocation for Sekolah Kebangsaan St Theresa Inobong to support the school’s equipment needs, as requested by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
