Liverpool have made contact with FIFA over Bobby Adekanye's move to Lazio.
The London Evening Standard says the Netherlands youth international had rejected offers of a new contract from the Reds after growing frustrated over a lack of first-team opportunities.
As such, Liverpool missed out on a transfer fee for the 20-year-old, with Lazio obliged to pay just 270,000 to cover training costs.
However, the Merseyside club have now alerted FIFA to the possibility that Adekanye was contacted by the Italians prior to his release being confirmed.
Unlike their senior counterparts, players under the age of 23 cannot begin negotiations with foreign clubs over a potential Bosman transfer during the final six months of their contract.
